October Movie of the Month

I have seen so many films this October and I find "The Sound of Thunder" very interesting. Although hammered by most of the critics, I like the philosophy of the film which disproves the effective interaction between different species from different time or dimension. I remember Stephen King's Langolier which is by the way, a better treat.

Before I forgot, it is not my October movie of the month. It is actually between two very political films from the west. The Constant Gardener is a well crafted movie, the editing and the direction from the "CIty of God" director is again very impressive. The film is about the constant threat posed by the first world countries to the poorer ones. It seems that it is a very tiring theme but the way the director integrates the issue down to the personal dilemna of the characters is agonizing but beautiful...

However, the recepient of the 2006 Palme d'Or in Cannes "The Wind That Shakes The Barley", by Ken Loach is my October favorite. Although not that perfectly crafted, it is by far stronger in theme and performances. Cillian Murphy is more than superb and I don't have any doubt that he is one of my favorite actors. THe last scene in the film is really remarkable and the movie really showed the heart, reason and human conditions of todays Irish Republican Army (IRA). Ken Loach piece is very timely and everyone in the movie are appropriately casted...

Next Month, I'll try to catch some Cinemanila Film Entries and I hope Spanish films like Volver, Salvador (Puig Antich) and Pans Labyrinth are all present there...
